Investigating The Affect of Concentration on The Rate of ReactionAim- To find out if changing the concentration of the hydrochloric irate affects the volume of gas released in 5 minutes.Background InformationThe rate of reaction depends on four things-1. Temperature2. Concentration3. Catalyst4. Size of particles/surface field of battleThe Collision TheoryThe collision theory explains the rates of reaction, the rate ofreaction depends on how often and how stern the reacting particlescollide with severally other. The basic theory is that particles discombobulate tocollide with each other in order to react, but it is non that simple,as it also depends on how hard the particles collide. If the particlesdo not collide hard enough then they will not react, they will simplyjust hit each other and bounce off.This means that even if I am not investigating the rate of reactionwhen the temperature is changed, it will sleek over have a big part to playin my experiment. If the temperature i s different in the classroomwhen I do each concentration of acid it may have a huge impact on myresults. To help keep my results as accurate as possible I could takethe temperature of the room before I do each experiment.If the temperature in the room is below 20 C the particles will stillbe moving, but very slowly. This would cause the react to be veryslow. At temperatures above 20 C the particles will be moving at aregular speed.Low Concentration High ConcentrationActivation EnergyActivation energy is the energy needed to start a reaction. individuallymolecule has a certain amount of energy, when molecules collide theyhave to collide with more energy than they already have in order toreact this is called a successful collision. If the molecules collidebut do not create enough energy this is an unsuccessful collision andthe molecules do not react.I am issue to focus on the concentration.
